Sharav loves water play but never played with an ice in particular. So I decided to involve him in setting up some colour ice in a popsicle tray.
You can do it in normal ice tray or shapes ice tray as well. All I wanted was to involve him as much and let him understand the process what are we doing.
He might not have got it fully that how water became an ice but I am sure after doing this for more two three times he would understand it completely.
So the idea behind was to keep it more sensory based & Montessori way –
👉 Pouring water into the moulds
👉 Mixing colours into the water
👉 Placing the Lids correctly
👉 Feeling the Ice Popsicles
👉 Touch and Feel cold object
👉 Treat to watch colourful Popsicles
👉 See the popsicles melt into water again
👉 How colours mix with eachother while melting.
👉 Placing the popsicles back into the mould
You can experiment with ICE in many ways.
👉 Hiding a toy inside the Ice & Rescue it with a hammer.
👉 Pretend Play like feeding Toys & Figurines
👉 Try making multicolour/ Rainbow Popsicles
👉 Do Ice Painting on Old Clothes
👉 Add natural fruit Juices for them to relish. Etc
This can be done with toddlers above 6 months as well just make sure they don’t mouth it and let them enjoy a pack of ice or ice popsicle for their sensory Development.
For toddlers above 18 months try and involve them in the whole process from start which would be more exciting for their sensory & Fine motor developments.
Hope you enjoyed watching this activity as much as we did.
Have an ICE day!
